The New Jersey SHARES Mortgage Assistance, Rent & Taxes (NJ SMART) Program provides assistance to eligible New Jersey residents who are in a temporary financial crisis and are facing housing emergencies. The NJ SMART Program will provide up to a $5,000 grant for overdue rent, mortgage, or property tax payments. Rent, mortgage or property tax payments must be past due a minimum of one month. Payments will be made in a one-time, lump-sum payment directly to the landlord, mortgage company or tax collector on behalf of the applicant.
