President's Letter

This month marks the tenth anniversary of the devastating events of September 11, 2001. The tragedies of that unimaginable morning have had a lasting impact on our neighbors across New Jersey and our nation.

Heroes emerged that day. NJ SHARES partner agencies played many roles in aiding the households affected by these tragic events. Together we mobilized, worked round the clock and deployed whatever resources were available at the time.

I remember the sense of community and oneness that was demonstrated on that day and the weeks and months that followed September 11, 2001. Nothing else mattered but finding and taking care of our loved ones, our agency partners did outstanding work. They demonstrated their expertise to coordinate volunteers, staff, resources, mobile units, donations and support to an extraordinary degree.

It is with a warm heart that I extend many thanks to our partners and friends for their support of NJ SHARES since our creation in 1998. Through our agency network, NJ SHARES was able to provide energy assistance grants to our New Jersey neighbors that were impacted by 9/11. Our partnership has assisted more than 172,500 households in crisis.

This day will be forever engrained in our hearts and the compassion and commitment to our communities that followed lives on in our daily work.

Warm regards,

Jim Jacob

Lifeline and Link-Up are federal programs that offer households discounts on their telephone monthly bills and reductions in the installation fees for households who cannot afford to pay the connection charges.

New Jerseyís enrollment in Lifeline is automatic for more than 100,000 low-income residents who are already enrolled in social service programs such as SSI, Medicaid, PAAD, LIHEAP, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families/Work First New Jersey (TANF), Food Stamp Program and others. ACE's Energy Saving Tips

Tips to Save Energy While Doing Laundry: Make sure that you clean the lint screen after each load of laundry and check the exhaust regularly. A lint screen in need of cleaning and a clogged exhaust can lengthen drying time and increase the amount of energy used.
