LIHEAP Update: Change in income eligibility
In New Jersey, the new LIHEAP income eligibility has been raised to 225 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) up from 175 percent, making many more of our neighbors able to qualify for this funding. The income levels for Universal Service Fund remains at 175 percent of FPL. Updated intake agency packets will be available to NJS intake agencies on11/1/08. Please visit the NJ SHARES website at

Legislative Update:
In addition, NJ SHARES is asking for support for Assembly bill A3374 and Senate Bill S1 that could provide $10 million in energy assistance to NJ SHARES. This additional funding will go a long way to helping more of our neighbors across New Jersey. Please contact your state legislators and voice your support for this bill.




Communications Lifeline & LInkUp America

Who Can Afford Not To Have A Telephone?

Verizon Communications in partnership with New Jersey SHARES makes residential telephone service more affordable in New Jersey by offering Communications Lifeline and Link Up America Services for qualified, low-income customers and program eligible clients.

Communications Lifeline provides a $16.29 maximum credit toward your monthly telephone bill including a full credit for Touch-Tone service. Communications Lifeline allows you to receive the discount by choosing Flat Rate Service, Moderate Use Message Rate Service or Low Use Message Rate Service. Link Up America provides a 50% discount on telephone connection charges. The remaining 50 percent may be billed in 12 monthly payments.

Your clients can benefit from this service if they receive benefits from a state program (such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, or PAAD, among others) or if they are a Senior Citizen (+65) who is not participating in one of the above programs and is at or below 150% of the U.S. Census Bureau Poverty Level Guidelines.
