Participate in our COOL DOWN FOR WARMTH event!


PARTICIPATE IN OUR COOL DOWN FOR WARMTH EVENT!

Thank you for your interest in participating in this meaningful event! Your efforts will go a long way in building awareness of the need for families who go without heat during the harsh winter months, while financially helping them to restore or maintain basic utility services. Below is a listing of incentives we are providing based on the amount of money your raise for your neighbors.

The event will kick off on February 1 and wrap up on February 2. Participants will stay in the Ice House for 30 minutes, or until you have met your fundraising goal of $2,500 or more. Donations may be eligible for a dollar-for-dollar match from our partnering utility companies, and 100% of the donations and matching funds will be used to provided utility assistance grants to qualified New Jersey households in need.

When you sign up to participate, you will be assigned a 30 minute timeslot during which you will stay in the house and raise donations to help you meet your fundraising goal. We encourage participants to recruit as many donations in advance in order to make sure you reach your goal.  Participants are encouraged to recruit as many donations in advance as possible and they will be able to contact potential donors by phone, email and social media to solicit contributions while they are in the house.  This will increase visibility for both NJ SHARES and the project as a whole.

While in the Ice House, you will be able to contact potential donors via phone, email, social media, or any other method you wish to solicit contributions. Once you meet your goal, you will be able to vacate the house and feel the warmth.

How it works


Participants are provided with all of the tools they will need to reach out to family, friends and co-workers in order to help each participant obtain donations. These items include, but are not limited to:

Spread the word about your fundraising challenge

Sharing is the key to successful fundraising!  Email the link to your fundraising page to everyone you know including friends, family, classmates, colleagues, etc.  Email is the most effective method, however, you should also share your page as many places as possible.  You can have the most impact by sharing your fundraiser on all your social networks. To do so, simply go to the Manage Campaign tab on your fundraiser page. Ask everyone you know to donate to your cause using the solicitation email provided by NJ SHARES.

Create your own Team or Individual fundraising webpage

  1. Go to crowdrise.com/NJSHARESCoolDownforWarmth
  2. Click on the ‘Set Your Fundraiser’ button.
  3. Click on the ‘Start Your Own Fundraiser’ link to start your own personal team in this event. If you are supporting a team that’s already part of the event, then click ‘Join a Team’.
  4. Personalize Your Unique Page: Give your team a title, set your fundraiser goal of $2,500 or more.  While your page will be hosted from the NJ SHARES Crowdrise site it is still important that you mention NJ SHARES and the families that you’ll be helping.  Feel free to tell people in the ‘About Your Fundraiser’ section that when you raise $1,000 as an individual, your efforts along with a match by our utility company partners will help approximately 6 families!  Also, if you raise $2,500 as a team and your efforts are matched by our utility company partners, you will have help approximately 12 households!  Upload a photo (optional).
  5. Create your Sign In for your account and a confirmation email will be sent to your inbox!

Collect your donations

Preferably, all donations should be collected through your personal fundraising page on crowdrise.com/NJSHARESCoolDownforWarmth, prior to your sit inside the ice house.  Donors will be able to make secure credit card donations through your personal fundraising page. You and your donors will be able to see the amount of money you have raised during any part of the campaign.

Dress warm and get ready to Cool Down!

Once you have signed up to participate in the Cool Down for Warmth event, you will be assigned a 30-minute timeslot. During this time you will stay in the ice house as part of your mission to reach your fundraising goal of $2,500 or more. Once you meet your goal, you will be able to vacate the Ice House and enter the warming tent.

What if I don't meet my goal?


Dress warm and hope for a heat wave – it’s going to be cold in that house! Seriously though, NJ SHARES will provide you with all the tools you’ll need to reach out to your family, friends and co-workers and obtain donations, including solicitation letters, social media messaging and the use of Crowdrise to help you spread the word.  We want you to succeed for the sake of our clients, so we’ll do what we can to help you out.
